Dr. Lavian has served as an Industry Fellow and Lecturer in UC Berkeley’s Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR) Department and at UC Berkeley Engineering’s Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SCET). As principal investigator a wireless RF signal startup company CRadar.Ai and as co-founder, CEO and CTO of smartphone wireless telecommunicators service integrator Aybell and its predecessor name, VisuMenu Inc., he has also taken advantage of UC Berkeley’s startup accelerator SkyDeck.
Dr. Lavian served as a principal investigator at CRadar.Ai that improves wireless radio signal phase noise purity by about 100x. The clean wireless radio frequency signal enables a pioneering radar-based object detection system for autonomous vehicles. The startup’s high-accuracy imaging radar complements existing detection systems by sensing objects under poor weather and lighting conditions—fog, rain, snow, direct sun, total darkness—when conventional camera- and lidar-based autonomous driving systems often fail.
As CEO and CTO of Aybell, Dr. Lavian found a way to transform mobile wireless devices and smartphones into visual menu systems that empower consumers to receive fast customer service using mobile application, social media platform, chat bot or browser. The system on a cloud telecommunications system that provides network communications integration to service provider telephony system. He led the design and implementation of the company’s service architecture, which builds on data science analytics, machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), and statistical learning (SL) advances—as well as cloud-based networking and computing capabilities via Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Aybell is a branding and marketing name of VisuMenu Inc. advanced technologies.
VisuMenu Inc. provides an innovative visual search engine for automated phone menus accessed from mobile wireless devices and smartphones. Serving as the company’s CTO, Dr. Lavian led the design of the search engine for IVR/PBX using Asterisk, SIP, and VoIP. VisuMenu’s system is deployed as a cloud network communications, telecommunications, and cloud computing service via Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The advanced technologies Dr. Lavian developed for VisuMenu Inc. have been rebranded as Aybell.
